Trichy: Customs officials seized 1.02 kg of gold, worth Rs 49 lakh, from a passenger who arrived at Trichy airport from Dubai on Sunday evening.
The officials, while they were engaged in the routine screening process, developed suspicion over the activities of a passenger. They intercepted the passenger and questioned him.
The passenger, identified as Mohamed Kalithakhan, 30, of Ramanathapuram, arrived at the Trichy airport from Dubai in an Air India Express flight.
The officials searched him and found 1.242 kg of gold in paste form in his jeans. Officials extracted 1.02 kg of gold from the paste.
The passenger was arrested.
