Hotel owners agree to pay for losses, SpiceJet resumes bookings on Delhi-Jaisalmer route

Jaipur: Private airline carrier SpiceJet has decided to resume bookings on the Delhi-Jaisalmer route from Saturday onwards.

In January of this year, SpiceJet had decided to pull out of its operations on the Delhi-Jaisalmer route citing non-feasibility after the subsidy given under the Civil Aviation Ministry's Udan initiative was withdrawn.

This decision led to a meeting chaired by the Jaisalmer district administration in Rajasthan. In the meeting, which was attended by Jaisalmer's hotel owners, local businessmen, stakeholders urged SpiceJet to resume its operations on the Delhi-Jaisalmer route.

In the meeting, Jaisalmer-based hotel owners and businessmen said they will make up for any losses incurred by SpiceJet for its operations on the Delhi-Jaisalmer route.

Thereafter, the private airline carrier decided to resume its operations on the Delhi-Jaisalmer route starting Saturday. SpiceJet has already started taking bookings for the route.

The tourism sector has been one of the major sources of revenue for Jaisalmer and other parts of Rajasthan that have been relied on foreign and Indian tourists for their businesses. Jaisalmer in particular has been popular on Rajasthan's tourist circuit for decades now.
