New Delhi: BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia on Monday slammed Vistara airline for serving only ‘halal’ meat to its passengers, terming it “blatant appeasement and outright discrimination”.
Bhatia, who took a Vistara flight to Delhi from Kolkata earlier today, said that when he enquired whether the non-veg meal being offered to him was jhatka or halal, he was told that the airline serves only ‘halal’ meat.
“Took the @airvistara flight UK 706 Ccu-Del On being offered a meal I enquired whether non-veg meal was jhatka or halal? I was told as a matter of policy they only serve halal. Is it not discriminatory to serve only halal & not respect the sentiments of others Why?,” he said on Twitter.
Halal is associated with Islamic dietary laws, and meat processed and prepared according to those requirements. Jhatka is the meat from an animal killed instantaneously and this type of slaughter is more prevalent in Hinduism and Sikhism.
