Flight operations to remain suspended at Pune airport from April 26 to May 9 due of runway recarpeting

Pune: The Pune airport will see no flight movements for a period of 14 days from April 26 to May 9 owing to the ongoing runway recarpeting works, authorities have confirmed.

With the complete closure set to hit flyers, especially those who have already booked their tickets during the above said period , as well as airlines, Pune airport director Kuldeep Singh, while confirming the information said, “We have received the same information from the Indian Air Force.”

The work on runway recarpeting of the Pune airport had started from October 26 last year which had seen the facility becoming operational for 12 hours between 8am to 8pm only. The airport officials had said that while the airport will remain operational for 12 hours only until October this year, the runway, which is managed by the Indian Air Force, will get completely closed down for all flight movements for a fortnight in April or May this year.

“This is quite shocking for me and my family. I have tickets booked for Delhi on April 30. We did the bookings just last week. Now, we will have to contact the airlines asking for a refund which these days is a tedious job. Though I don’t know how this works, the airlines or the airport authorities should have informed us about this to us in advance,” Kharadi resident Rahul Kande, told TOI.

Airport officials said that the information has been passed on their social media handle without delays. “We are informing the passengers well in advance considering that February has only started. Coordination is on with the airlines to duly inform the passengers set to book tickets. Most of the current scheduled flights are expected to remain cancelled during the same time. More information on the same can only be provided by the airlines,” another airport official told TOI.
