3 injured as trainer aircraft crashes near Bhopal

Bhopal: A twin-engine trainer aircraft crashed in a harvested agricultural field on Saturday near Badwai village on the outskirts of Bhopal. Three people were in the aircraft including the pilot at the time of the incident, said Bhopal Airport Director Anil Vikram.

He said the aircraft is registered with Pinnacle Air, a private aviation company. It took off from Bhopal airport and crashed in an agricultural field soon after.

The exact cause of the crash is not known and would be clear only after an inquiry.

Sources said that the plane was being flown by Captain Ashwani Sharma and the co passengers have been identified as Sami and Raj.

The aircraft is a Partenavia or P 68 and can carry up to four passengers.

Sources said that the aircraft was on a flight between Bhopal and Guna.

It had earlier been deployed to do survey work in the Narmada river. The plane had a camera mounted in the nose section for the survey work.

Soon after the crash, police and fire tenders reached the spot and cordoned it off. The injured crew were taken to a private hospital and are out of danger.
