Driverless pod taxis to connect Jewar international airport with Greater Noida

Greater Noida: Uttar Pradesh government has decided to connect the upcoming international airport in Jewar with Greater Noida using pod taxis. A popular mode of transport in many western countries, pod taxis accommodate four to six people per car and are driverless.

The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) said that the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will develop the pod taxi service connecting Greater Noida and Jewar. A Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be presented in this regard soon.

"We already have Metro connectivity till Greater Noida but Jewar is about 25 kilometers from Greater Noida city. To bridge this gap, pod taxis are being considered. Pod taxis are a revolutionary mode of transport widely being used in many western countries," said Dhirendra Singh, BJP MLA from Jewar in Greater Noida.

The estimated cost of the pod taxi project is an estimated Rs 50-60 crore per kilometer.

So far, the upcoming airport in Jewar is connected through two major expressways, the Yamuna Expressway and Eastern Peripheral Expressway, which connects northern and southern areas around the national capital region. In December of last year, the UP Cabinet had approved the bid by Zurich Airport International for the development of the Jewar airport.
