Air Customs seize gold worth Rs 48 lakh at Kannur Int'l Airport from three passengers

Kannur: Air Customs sleuths on Wednesday seized 1053 grams of gold valued around Rs 48 lakh from three passengers, including two women, who arrived at Kannur International Airport from Sharjah from two different flights.

Customs Assistant Commissioner Madhusoodhana Bhat-led team detained Rayees of Mooriyad in Kannur district with 560 grams of gold valued Rs 25 lakh, who arrived in an Air India flight from Sharjah.

The Customs officials also arrested two women--Shakila Banu and her daughter Simin Naz from Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu with 493 grams of gold valued Rs 23 lakh. They also arrived from Sharjah in a GoAir flight.

All the seized gold was in the compound form and was concealed in their inner-wear, customs sources said.
