Eleven Indian airports win 2020 ACI Awards

Mumbai: Eight Indian airports have featured in Airports Council International’s (ACI) ``Best Airports in Asia Pacific region” and among these are airports of Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Cochin. What was different this year was the new category of an award that ACI introduced. Called the ``Hygiene Award’’, the Indian airports of Chandigarh, Kolkata and Pune made it to the top in the Asia-Pacific category.

The awards didn’t rank airports. It recognised, region-wise, those airports that made it into the top 25 % in the hygiene category and top 20% in the best airports category.

``As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, travellers are demanding new services and procedures based on their specific needs, requirements, and concerns,’’ said ACI.

The “Hygiene Award” will recognize those airports that best listen to their customers and respond in a way that meets their changed expectations to provide a hygienic and safe airport environment.

A total of 33 airports from across the world were in the top 25 % group and were recognised with the Hygiene Award.
