Jacobs chosen as programme management consultant for India’s DNIA project

Construction company Jacobs Engineering Group (JEC) has been chosen as the programme management consultant by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL) for the forthcoming Delhi Noida International Airport (DNIA) project in India.

YIAPL is a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International (ZRH) AG.

The greenfield development’s initial phase will cover a new terminal complex, runway, air traffic control tower, taxiways, aircraft parking and cargo facilities.

Construction of ancillary buildings across 1,334ha will also take place during phase one of the project, which is expected to be operational in 2024.

Once built, the new airport in Jewar will handle nearly 12 million passengers a year and become the second airport in the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR).

Phase two of the development will comprise additional terminal and airfield infrastructure construction, including a second runway, which will raise the capacity to 30 million passengers annually.

Jacobs president and COO Bob Pragada said: “The new airport will deliver much-needed aviation capacity for the city, helping to boost tourism, create jobs and support economic development in the region. The airport is also expected to improve connectivity to major regional cities in Uttar Pradesh, which is home to some of India’s most popular tourist attractions, including the Taj Mahal, by providing a new international gateway to the regional cities of Lucknow and Agra.
