Female passenger manhandles CISF staffer at Mumbai airport, arrested

Mumbai: A young woman was arrested for manhandling a CISF officer at Terminal 2 of the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai early on Sunday. Police said the passenger wanted to take a Go Air flight to Bengaluru but reached Terminal 2 instead of Terminal 1.

The passenger was a West Bengal native. "She had reached Terminal 2 well in advance but was not told by the CISF staffer at the entrance to the departure terminal that her GO Air flight would be boarding from Terminal 1," a police officer said. After she went inside the airport, she tried to locate the GO Air check-in counter but couldn't find one. She was then told that GO Air flights board from Terminal 1 at which she lost her cool.

"The passenger wanted to know why she hadn't been alerted at the departure gate itself. The CISF told her she still had an hour and half for boarding the flight and could easily go over to Terminal 1. But the passenger started to argue. Things escalated quickly and she slapped a CISF constable, Umashankar Shukla, also hurling expletives at him. When a female constable was summoned to take her into custody, the passenger spat on her. The passenger was overpowered and handed over to Sahar police station where she was booked under section 353 of IPC for "assaulting a public servant." She ended up missing her flight.
