Ventilators, other equipment worth Rs 4.18 crore cleared on priority at Bengaluru airport

Bengaluru: Medical equipment — 74 high-end ventilators worth Rs 3.6 crore from Ireland and the US as well as 218 respiratory devices from Czech Republic worth Rs 58 lakh — reached the Kempegowda International Airport here on Wednesday and was cleared by Bangalore Customs within four hours.

Only 12% IGST was collected for the equipment after exemption of customs duty and health cess.

According to sources with the Cargo Intelligence Unit (CIU) of the Customs, 66 high-end ventilators from Ireland and eight from the United States were received.

The ventilator consignments imported by private players were accorded top priority and were cleared by 6pm after exemption of customs duty and health cess as per the Indian government order.
