Ninety-nine ventilators arrive at Bengaluru airport

Bengaluru: Ninety-nine ventilators from Singapore and Sweden have arrived at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in the past three days. Customs officers cleared them on priority as hospitals desperately need the machines for Covid-19 patients.

The central government has exempted medical products imported for the Covid-19 fight from 7.5 per cent customs duty and 3 per cent health cess. According to a customs officer at KIA’s cargo wing, a consignment of 54 high-end ventilators worth Rs 3 crore arrived in Bengaluru from Singapore on Saturday. The consignment, imported by a private company, was cleared within 24 hours.
