Govt approves DPR of Jewar International airport with some modification

Lucknow: Union civil aviation ministry has approved the detailed project report for the Jewar international airport at Greater NOIDA.

The Union government has however asked for some amendments in the project report.

A Swedish company Zurich Airport International AG (ZAIA) has won the contract to build and operate the airport for a period of 40 years in November 2019. ZAIA received the security clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs in May 2020.

The state government has set up a special purpose vehicle NOIDA international airport Limited (NIAL) for the execution of the project.

The 9th board meeting of the NIAL was held on Friday presided by the chief secretary R K Tewari through video conferencing. Mr Tewari said the developer has been asked to prepare the project report as per the amendments suggested by the Union civil aviation ministry.

UP government in December 2020 had signed a concession agreement with representatives of Zurich Airport International for designing, building and operating the Noida International Airport at Jewar for a period of 40 years. The airport will be developed on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) basis and is scheduled to open in 2024. It will be located at a distance of 70 kms from Delhi, 40 kms from Noida and 130 kms from Agra.
