Hyderabad: Gold seized at RGI Airport in Shamshabad

Hyderabad: Customs sleuths booked a passenger who arrived from Dubai at Rajiv Gandhi International (RGI) Airport on Wednesday for trying to smuggle out gold. The officials have seized gold worth Rs 13.6 lakh from his possession.

During the screening of baggage belonging to the accused, who arrived from Dubai in flight 6E-25, Customs officials spotted a suspicious object in a suitcase. The officials pulled aside the suitcase and removed the silver color coated gold metal frame specially fixed inside the suitcase.

The weight of the 18 Karat gold was 381 grams and its value is Rs 13.6 lakh. Customs officials seized the same and a case was registered against the passenger under the Customs Act. In the past one week, this is the second case of gold seizure by the Customs authorities at the RGI Airport. Earlier, on April 8, two passengers who picked up 943 grams of gold concealed in the flight 6E-259 were arrested by the Customs officials at RGI Airport.
