Chennai: Customs officials seized 253 gms of gold worth Rs 11.83 lakh from two passengers who arrived from Dubai at the Anna International airport today.
A release from the Airport Commissioner of Customs said the passengers, Sahubar Ali (32) and Mohamed Jabir (24), both from Ramanathapuram, who arrived from Dubai by Air India flight were intercepted at exit on suspicion of carrying gold.
On their personal search, three gold bundles were recovered from rectum, one from Sahubar Ali and two from Jabir.
On extraction 253 grams of gold valued at Rs 11.83 lakhs was recovered and seized under the provisions of Customs Act.
