Several routes begin operations under India's regional connectivity scheme

A total of 22 routes have been operationalised under UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagarik), India’s regional connectivity scheme.

Out of these, six new routes have been operationalised in north east India. After the successful commencement of the flight operations on Shillong- Silchar route (Indigo), the first direct flight between Shillong-Agartala (Indigo) was flagged off.

The routes that commenced operations were Gorakhpur to Lucknow (Air India); Kurnool to Bengaluru, Vishakhapatnam and Chennai (Indigo); from Agra to Bangalore and Bhopal (Indigo); from Prayagraj to Bhubaneswar and Bhopal (Indigo).

New flight connectivity was also established from Dibrugarh to Dimapur (Indigo).

Indigo was also awarded the Shillong-Agartala, Shillong-Silchar, Kurnool-Bengaluru, Vishakhapatnam and Chennai routes under the UDAN 4 bidding process last year; while Alliance Air was awarded the Lucknow–Gorakhpur route under the UDAN 3 bidding process – which have also begun operations.
