Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) staff of all age groups along with the Airport Authority of
India would be vaccinated in this drive. “All staff including those in the age group between 18 and 45 years
will be provided jabs starting Monday,” said an official.
There are around 22,000 employees who work at
KIA, which is one of the busiest airports in the country.
“Considering the competing demand from sub-groups of aviation, inter-se priority should be made to cover
the ATC, crew of airlines (cockpit and cabin), mission-critical and passenger facing staff on priority,” the
Ministry guidelines stated. It further said the cost per vaccination dose can be decided by the airport operator
with the service provider.
“These facilities would be available for all aviation sector stakeholders at the same cost. All agencies
working in the airports ecosystem need to sponsor their personnel to avail the facilities as operators/service
providers would not be dealing with individual cases,” the guidelines stated. At present, the Aster Airport
Medical Centre is providing vaccination to all eligible citizens as per the Government of India guidelines.
Meanwhile, for smaller airports it stated the operators can approach the district or local administration for
extension of the vaccination programme. At the Mysuru Airport, which is operated by the Airport Authority
of India, all employees have got the first dose of the vaccine. “We had tied up the primary health centre to
conduct the drive. All our staff irrespective of the age have been considered front line workers and have been
given the first dose of the vaccine,” said the airport director.
