2.75 lakh COVID vaccines arrive in Chennai airport

Chennai: About two lakh doses of covishield and 75,000 vials of Covaxin vaccines to be administered to the people to safeguard them against COVID, arrived at the Chennai airport here today. While 75,000 Covaxin vaccines in 16 parcels, came from Hyderabad in an Air Asia flight, two lakh covishield vaccines sanctioned by the Centre came here by an Indigo Airlines flight, airport sources said.

As the second wave of coronavirus was spreading fast in Tamil Nadu with the daily COVID case load inching towards the 21,000 mark, including more than 6,000 in Chennai, there has been good response from the people to get the vaccine jab to prevent themselves from getting infected.

Based on the request from the State government seeking additional consignment of vaccines, 75,000 doses of covaxin in 16 parcels, sanctioned from the Central pool, arrived here today from Hyderabad.

Health department officials received the vaccine and it was taken to the vaccine storage Centre at the DMS complex in the city.

Similarly, two lakh doses of covishield, allotted by the Centre, came in the afternoon.
