Largest consignment of US Covid aid, 125 tonnes, reaching Delhi on a jumbo jet

New Delhi: The third and largest consignment with 125 tonnes of the US government’s emergency Covid-19 relief medical supply will reach Delhi on Saturday night on American carrier National Airlines’ jumbo jet. US Agency for International Development (USAID) has mobilised masks, oxygen tanks, cylinders and other medical supplies totalling “about 2.5 lakh pounds” of life-saving supplies.

“This shipment will reach Delhi at 11 pm Saturday. Biden administration will be sending supplies worth more than $100 million in its efforts to mitigate the pandemic in India,” Orlando-based National Air Cargo Holdings, which owns National Airlines and National Air Cargo, said in a statement.

National Airlines chairman Christopher Alf said: “We have been constantly involved in transporting medical relief supplies across the world since the beginning of the pandemic including vaccines. This latest mission to India is our unceasing obligation to support the battle against the global pandemic.”

Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, National Airlines Boeing 747- 400F aircraft have been flown medical supplies, equipment and vaccines across the globe.
