The Maldives has announced an indefinite but temporary suspension of tourist visas for visitors from South Asian countries. The new restrictions kick in starting Thursday, 13 May. Just three days ago, on 8 May, the country suspended entry of Work Permit Holders from South Asian Countries. As per that notification, the list of South Asian countries includes Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
Maldives now joins the list of over a dozen countries that have restricted any direct travel from India. We’re yet to find out how this latest restriction impacts those already in the Maldives. But if airlines suspend operations, those holidaying on the islands may have trouble getting back.
