Japan sends oxygen concentrators to India

A plane carrying 100 oxygen concentrators to India departs from Tokyo's Haneda Airport on Saturday morning to help the country deal with a surge in coronavirus cases.

The shipment is part of an aid package announced by the Japanese government that includes an emergency grant of up to 50 million dollars, in addition to 300 ventilators and 300 oxygen concentrators.

India's daily tally of new coronavirus cases has frequently topped 300,000 recently. The country is facing a critical shortage of hospital beds and oxygen for medical use.

The Japanese government is procuring the equipment from domestic makers.
