New Delhi: Hong Kong has barred the entry of travellers from India and some other countries indefinitely due to the massive Covid surge in these places. Malaysia has also decided to impose temporary travel restrictions to and from India for the same reason.
Hong Kong: While Hong Kong had earlier barred passenger flights from India for 14 days from April 20, it has now put India, Pakistan, Philippines and Nepal in the “extremely high risk” Covid list from May 1.
“All persons who have stayed in these places for more than two hours during the relevant period (the day of boarding for/arrival at Hong Kong or during the 21 days before that day) will not be allowed to board for Hong Kong,” says the website of the government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Brazil, Ireland, South Africa and the UK are also Hong Kong’s extremely high-risk Covid countries.
Malaysia: Vande Bharat Mission (VBM) flights to and from Malaysia have been temporarily suspended following it imposed travel restrictions for India. Air India Express Tweeted Sunday, “As per the latest notification from the Malaysian government, flights to/from Kuala Lumpur are temporarily suspended till further notice.”
The high commission of India in Kuala Lumpur had Tweeted on Tuesday (April 27): “Consequent to Government of Malaysia’s decision to impose temporary travel restrictions to and from India, VBM flights would be suspended till further notice. Updates, as received from (Malaysian) government will be disseminated periodically.”
