Aircraft damage: DGCA holds inspection at Ahmedabad airport

Ahmedabad: Two days after strong winds damaged four aircraft parked at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, officials of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation on Friday conducted an inspection of the incident. A preliminary report had already been sent to the aviation regulator on Thursday.

Sources told TOI that a team of DGCA officials came from Delhi and inspected the site at the airport hangar where the incident took place. A detailed report will soon be filed by the DGCA regarding the matter according to sources.

Four aircraft parked at the city airport sustained varying degree of damage due to strong winds that gusted through the airport. The storm hit around 9pm on Wedensday. Three aircraft of IndiGo, one of GoAir and one of SpiceJet drifted from their parked positions due to the wind. “The strong wind led to parked aircraft drifting from their positions and colliding with ground equipment (step ladders) near the aircraft. Some four aircraft sustained minor damage to their wings,” said an airport spokesperson.
