New Delhi: India has sent a Bombardier Global 5000 jet to get fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi back from Dominica in case the courts there order his deportation to India. The aircraft took eight Indian officials to Dominica on May 27 from New Delhi and is parked there since May 28.
However, soon after news broke that India has sent a high-end private jet to Dominica to get Mehul Choksi back, many on social media have been asking how much would it cost a person to hire a private jet in order to travel to Dominica from India and return.
India Today TV spoke to travel agencies and people associated with the business of renting charter private jets to find out how much one would have to pay for a private jet in order to fly eight people to Dominica from New Delhi and return within a week.
According to a quotation sent by a private travel agency to this reporter, a week's return trip to Dominica from India will cost around $449,000 (approximately Rs 3.28 crore).
The fly time for a one-way trip to Dominica is around 17 hours. The cost includes a base price of $374,000 and handling charges of $75,000.
This 13-seater charter flight is managed by two pilots and one flight attendant. Other facilities on the Bombardier Global 5000 jet include one lavatory and the aircraft has a cabin height of six feet one inches. The luggage capacity is 300 kg per person. However, it doesn't provide WiFi connection but has in-flight entertainment, reclining seats, catering and beds.
In case hired, the aircraft will make a stop at Madrid, which may increase the overall cost.
However, the travel agency said the cost will include handling charges at the Madrid airport along with parking charges in Dominica.
In case of the jet sent to bring back Mehul Choksi, the aircraft left New Delhi with eight government officials on May 27. It landed in Dominica on May 28 and made a stop at Madrid for refuelling.
