India is also one of the world’s hotspots for Covid-19 infections. Like much of the non-U.S. world, vaccine rollouts have been slow and countrywide communication has been a challenge. This has resulted in the Indian government capping airline capacity and regulating pricing at times, and also has caused a huge drop-off in Indians willing to and able to travel. The Indian government has not offered the payroll support that the U.S. did for its airlines, leaving each carrier to manage their own situation against rapidly declining traffic and changing government mandates.
