Indore: 5,000 flight tickets cancelled amid second wave of Covid-19

Indore: Around 5000 flight tickets booked in Indore for travel scheduled in the last two months were cancelled due to the second wave of Covid-19 and subsequent imposition of travel restrictions, claimed the state chapter of travel agents association of India.

The agents however pointed out that this count is however one fourth of the number of cancellations recorded last year during lockdown.

“About 20,000 flight tickets were cancelled during the lockdown period last year. This time the number of cancellations are hardly around 5,000,” claimed the association’s state chairman Hemendra Singh Jadon while speaking to TOI.

Most of these 5000 tickets were booked for travel on routes like Indore-Delhi, Indore-Mumbai, Indore-Chennai, Indore-Bangalore etc. between April and May this year.

Jadon said that the number of bookings, especially those made for holiday and tourism purposes, were comparatively low this time due to the second wave of Covid-19.

“Unlike last year, people did not make any long holiday trips this time as Covid-19 cased had already started increasing in some of the states like Maharashtra, Delhi, Chhattisgarh etc. and most of the bookings were made for only essential and business travel related purposes,” he said.

Travel agents and airlines started receiving requests for cancellation of tickets from passengers from the very first week of April following a surge in the number of cases of Covid-19 across the country.
