Thiruvananthapuram: Adani Group will delay takeover of Thiruvanathapuram international airport. It is learned that the decision was taken due to the crisis in the aviation sector amid the pandemic.
It is hinted that Adani Airport Limited appraoched the Airport Authority of India (AAI) for permission to delay the privatisation formalities of the airport.
On January 19, Adani Group signed a contract with the Airport Authority of India (AAI) for permission the operation, development and management of three airports including Thiruvananthapuram for 50 years. As per the conditions, Adani Group was supposed to take over the airport within 6 months from signing the contract.
In 2020, AAI has given 6 more months to the Adani group to take over Mangalore, Ahmedabad and Lucknow airports in view of the pandemic. Following this, the Adani group took over these airports in November.
In the second phase of the privatization, AAI has granted permission to the Adani group to take over Thiruvananthapuram, Guwahati and Jaipur airports.
At the same time, Kerala has approached the Supreme Court questioning the privatisation of Thiruvananthapuram airport.
