Pune: Air traffic nearly doubles as Covid-19 cases come down in district

Relaxations have been eased, businesses have started to resume and people are once again getting on with their lives as the number of Covid-19 cases sees a sharp decline all across India. In Pune, the past few days have seen air traffic almost doubling as life continues to head towards normalcy.

As per a report in The Indian Express, the number of flights has gone up from 26 per day from mid-may to 46 per day in mid-June.

“As the severity of the infection spread will go down, more people will buy the tickets to travel and the number of flights will go up. We are seeing an increasing trend of footfall and flight operations since the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic has started receding and businesses are opening up,” Kuldeep Singh, director, Pune airport told the paper.

On May 17, there were just 13 arrivals at the Pune airport and 17 departures. The number of people taking the flight from the airport was 746 while the number of incomers was 650. Since the restrictions have been eased over the past week or so, June 14 saw as many as 2307 passengers arriving at the Pune airport while 1826 boarded the flight from there for different destinations.

The numbers are, however, still to reach the pre-pandemic level. As per the report in IE, about 75 flight arrivals used to happen in a single day before the Covid-19 outbreak happened. The number of flights departing was also around the same figure.
