DRI seizes heroin worth Rs 21 crore at Hyderabad airport

Hyderabad: After receiving specific intelligence inputs, officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) intercepted a female passenger from Zambia at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad on Monday morning. They recovered 3.2 kilograms of what turned out to be heroin, worth Rs 21 crore, from her check-in baggage.

The passenger had flown to Hyderabad from Zambia via Johannesburg and Doha on a Qatar Airways flight.

After a detailed examination of her baggage, the off-white powdery substance concealed in her bags was recovered. The substance tested positive for heroin.

The drugs were seized and the passenger was arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
