800 booked for protest over Navi Mumbai airport

Navi Mumbai: More than 800 persons were booked by Uran, Nhava Sheva, Kamothe, Panvel taluka and Panvel city police for a protest march and bike rally despite police permission being denied on Monday evening, demanding that the state government name Navi Mumbai international airport after late D B Patil, leader of project-hit people.

Those booked for violating Covid SOPs include sitting and ex-MLAs, Panvel mayor, deputy mayor, leader of the House and many corporators as they led the march. They were booked under IPC sections for disobedience of order duly promulgated by a public servant as the police chief had denied permission for the march to prevent assembly of more than five persons at a public place.
