Port Blair: The lone Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Minister of Civil Aviation, Government of India to resume the chartered flight service between Port Blair and Car Nicobar.

In a letter addressed to the Minister of Civil Aviation, the MP, Mr Kuldeep Rai Sharma pointed out that way back in 1984 Indian Airlines used to operate flights between Port Blair and Car Nicobar which discontinued after five to six months. Again on 24 July 2014, a chartered flight service between Port Blair – Car Nicobar sector was started. Later, this chartered flight service was also discontinued in August 2016 due to the withdrawal of the CRJ type aircraft from Alliance Air’s fleet.

The Member of Parliament mentioned that the chartered flight service between Port Blair and Car Nicobar was immensely helpful for the people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, especially for the residents of Car Nicobar Island and Government Servants and hence there was always a heavy rush for tickets. This flight service was equally helpful for students and patients too.

Considering the importance of such a faster mode of transport connecting Nicobar District, the MP requested the Minister of Civil Aviation to resume Chartered flight service between Port Blair- Car Nicobar by extending the trip of any regular aircraft from Mainland to Port Blair up to Car Nicobar, at least twice in a week.
