Motorist complains of T2 airport parking issue

Mumbai: A doctor from a private hospital in Mumbai and his family had a "bitter" experience of parking a vehicle at the T2 parking lot on three occasions recently wherein he was asked to go to a premium parking area against his wishes.

Speaking to TOI, the doctor from Powai said, "On the evening of August 1, I went to the airport to receive my relatives and at the entry point of general parking, I was asked to go to the premium lot when I insisted on going for ordinary parking. After a lot of opposition and arguing with officials, I was informed that I can pay the rate for ordinary parking. However, at the time of exit, I was again asked to pay a premium rate of Rs 280. When I took up the issue with the supervisor, he intervened and asked me to pay the ordinary rate of Rs 160. This was the third time that I was facing a similar issue."

Airport authorities, however, said that there were signs for ordinary and premium parking. "Besides, we shut down the ordinary parking lot at times when there is flooding or water ingress in the area due to the monsoon. During such times, we have instructed the officials to be polite with motorists and arrive at an amicable solution. They are empowered to charge ordinary rates in premium parking lots if the customer has a genuine concern," sources from Mumbai international airport said.
