Spain reopens for desis; UAE allows residency permit holders who got jabs there to return

New Delhi: Get ready to say hola! as Spain has reopened for fully vaccinated Indians, that is, for travellers who have received both doses of Covishield vaccine and not Covaxin — from Monday (August 2).

Travellers should have received the second jab at least 14 days before their planned visit to Spain.

In addition, UAE has allowed holders of valid residency permits who got both the jabs in the UAE to return to the country from India and five other countries starting Thursday (August 5).

Airlines are seeking clarification from the UAE authorities if residency permit holders in India who got UAE approved jabs (that includes Covishield) here are eligible to travel or not from Thursday.

“While this relaxation may not help UAE residency permit holders in India who got Covishield here, it will lead to resumption of travel by this category there to India as they will be able to return since they had got the jabs in the UAE,” said an airline official.

While restrictions on travel from India to UAE remain, the list of those exempt from the same has been expanded.

Starting Thursday (August 5), irrespective of their vaccination status some more categories will be allowed to return to the UAE from India. These include healthcare workers like doctors, nurses and technicians employed in UAE; students and people working in UAE education sector; humanitarian cases with valid residency permit and those working in government agencies there.
