CISF personnel who stopped Salman Khan at airport 'rewarded' not penalised

On August 19, a CISF officer -- ASI Somnath Mohanty of Rayagada, became the talk of the town after a video of him stopping Bollywood superstar Salman Khan from entering the Mumbai airport and instructing him to follow the security protocol went viral on the internet. Salman was leaving for Russia to shoot for his upcoming film 'Tiger 3' opposite Katrina Kaif.

In the viral video, the officer stopped Salman who was walking towards the airport terminal to enter it, and gestured for him to first get clearance from the security checkpoint.

Days later, media reports claimed that the officer was in trouble for his actions and that his phone was seized after he spoke to the media about the 'viral video', which was a breach of protocol. A New Indian Express report quoting another CISF officer who claimed that the officer's phone had been confiscated to ensure that he does not speak to the media about the incident.

However, issuing a statement of sorts and clarifying the buzz around the CISF personnel being in trouble, the official Twitter handle of the CISF put out a tweet mentioning that the officer in question was 'suitably rewarded for exemplary professionalism'.

"The contents of this tweet are incorrect & without a factual basis. In fact, the officer concerned has been suitably rewarded for exemplary professionalism in the discharge of his duty. @PIBHomeAffairs," read the CISF's tweeted in response to one such news report that claimed the officer was penalised for his actions against the superstar.
