Kozhikode: A continuation of the gold smuggling instances through Calicut International Airport in Karipur near here, the Air Customs Intelligence on Saturday confiscated over two-and-a-half kilograms of gold worth over a crore while it was being smuggled out of the airport.
Customs sources said two passengers from Gulf have been arrested in connection with the smuggling.
A road accident in Ramanattukara near here few months ago had exposed the active functioning of gold smuggling racket as well as stealer gangs operating around the airport area.
The police is investigating into the intricacies of the illegal deals which has extensions to CPI(M) activists.
