Chennai: Officials of Air customs seized 1.34 kg gold worth Rs 65 lakh from a woman passenger, who arrived from Dubai at the Anna International airport here on Wednesday morning and arrested her.
A release from the Office of the Principal Commissioner of Customs said based on specific intelligence received from Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DR), Kochi, Chennai customs officers intercepted a 28-year-old woman passenger who arrived from Dubai by an Emirates flight at 0220 hrs.
On personal search of the passenger, two packets and two bundles containing gold in paste form were recovered from her inner wear and rectum respectively, which on extraction yielded 1.34 kg of 24k gold valued at Rs.65 lakhs.
The gold was seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.
The passenger was arrested. Further investigation is under progress.
