Flight with 123 on board suffers technical snag, makes emergency landing

Chennai: An Air India flight bound for Andamans, with 123 on board, including 117 passengers, made an emergency landing, minutes after take off from the airport, following a technical snag on Friday.

Sources said the Airbus-320 flight left for Port Blair at 8.40 am. When the aircraft was in mid air, the pilot noticed a technical snag.

Acting swiftly, he contacted the Airport control authorities and sought permission for emergency landing.

The authorities gave the nod for returning the flight and the aircraft made an emergency landing at 9.40 am.

All the 123 people on board, who had a providential escape, were housed at the airport and Air India made arrangements to transport them in an alternative flight, sources said.
