Kolkata: The aviation ministry has requested various states including West Bengal to reduce value added tax (VAT) on aviation turbine fuel (ATF) in order to increase air traffic and domestic connectivity post pandemic, Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Road Transport and Highways Gen VK Singh said on Thursday.
Attending a webinar organised by Bharat Chamber of Commerce on the topic of Current and Future Perspectives of the Civil Aviation Sector, Singh said, “The Centre has held talks with the state governments and has requested them to reduce their rates which are sometimes as high as 30 per cent.”
While stressing that the aviation sector has been badly hit by the Covid-19 pandemic, Singh said the sector is slowly coming back to normalcy and has huge growth potential.
