CHIAL approves freight charges for integrated cargo complex

Mohali: The Chandigarh International Airport Limited (CHIAL) has finalised freight charges for handling the domestic and international cargo at the airport.

The CHIAL is set to start an integrated cargo complex with perishable cargo centre, giving a fillip to both perishable and non-perishable exports from the region.

CHIAL chief executive officer Ajay Bhardwaj said, “We have finalised the freight charges for cargo which would start functioning from first week of November. This will enhance the capacity of cargo complex, including the facility of international cargo, with the arrangement of storage of perishable cargo. Total area of new complex is 14,127sqmt.” Bhardwaj said Air India, IndiGo, Vistara and Go Air are doing self-handing of cargo. Only domestic facility for common screening is available and other functions are done by airlines themselves. The total area of cargo facility is 575 sqmt. The airport is handling predominantly belly cargo in some sector.
