Chennai Airport to get multi-level car parking, mall in December

Chennai: The Chennai International Airport is likely to get a multi-level car parking lot to cater more than 2,000 vehicles by December 15. According to a report published in the New Indian Express (TNIE), the multi-level car parking(MLCP) complex will also have entertainment and shopping facilities.

The opening of MLCP, whose construction started in March 2019 in the 4.25 acre land area at a cost of Rs 250 crores, was delayed in September due to the Covid-19 pandemic. A Chennai airport officer was quoted by TNIE as saying that almost 90 per cent of work has been finished on the east and west blocks of MLCP and it may open by December 15.

There will be a five-screen multiplex, two food courts, engagement stores for kids, retail shops, bars and restaurants at the MLCP. Passengers who have to wait for a long time to catch their flights can entertain themselves and access the commercial areas or watch a movie. The local residents will also be permitted in the commercial area and the multiplex.

Once the MLCP is inaugurated, Chennai Airport will be the first airport in the country to have multi-modal connectivity. The official told TNIE that passengers can take the suburban train, road or Metro as all the modes of transport will be available.
