Customs sleuths nab passenger at Bengaluru airport for smuggling Rs 4.9 lakh worth gold by hiding it in mouth

Bengaluru:  A 42-year-old man was apprehended by the air customs sleuths at Kempegowda International Airport in Karnataka’s Bengaluru for allegedly smuggling into the country gold worth more than Rs 4 lakh by hiding it inside his mouth.  The accused, a resident of Tamil Nadu’s Chennai, was intercepted by the customs officials following his arrival from Dubai on Wednesday. The officials, during interrogation, noticed that the man had some kind of difficulty while speaking. Subsequently, his mouth was checked.

Two pieces of gold collectively weighing 100 grams valued at Rs 4.9 lakh inside the man’s mouth. Following this, the officials seized the gold and booked the man for customs duty evasion, according to a report by The Times of India.

The accused, during interrogation, revealed that he went to Dubai from the Tamil Nadu capital on October 14. Authorities even found fifteen other gold pieces hidden inside the Indigo flight 6E 096. However, it is yet to be verified that if the same person left those gold pieces inside the flight that arrived from Dubai on Wednesday. A probe into the matter is on.
