Jharsuguda: Public resentment brews in Jharsuguda and adjoining districts following the decision of the Spicejet to cancel a direct flight from Bengaluru to Jharsuguda via Mumbai from October 6.
Which also means Mumbai to Jharsuguda would be discontinued.
The longstanding demand of people from western Odisha had been met when a direct flight from Jharsuguda-Bengaluru route was launched nine months back on January 12.
As Spicejet is going to withdraw the flight, it would be difficult for commuters on both these routes-Mumbai to Jharsuguda and Jharsuguda to Bengalure. If someone wishes to travel these routes, he or she would catch connecting flights from other routes or else will embark on 29 hours’ tedious rail journey.
According to sources, both the airliner and airport authorities were satisfied with the revenue and passenger rush for 80% occupancy of seats.
It has been learnt that the Spicejet is planning to restore the flights to Bengaluru via Delhi route.
Jharsuguda Airport Director Pavan Kumar Zutshi though admitted the proposed cancellation of flight in the route said official
Communications in this regard would be made within a few days.
