Pune airport temporarily shut, operations to resume from October 30

Pune: The Pune airport has been temporarily closed and will open on October 30 from 8am onwards.

According to airport officials, all flight operations at the airport have been suspended from 8pm on Friday due to runway resurfacing works.

“The Indian Air Force had given us the dates recently for the closure. The movement of vaccines from Pune will not be affected as the IAF has assured that they will use their assets to transport them from Pune to Mumbai. The airport will open again from 8am on October 30. However, the airport will remain operational for 12 hours only after reopening -- from 8am to 8pm. It is expected to be fully operational from December 1, provided the IAF permits,” an airport official said.

The airport is a part of the Lohagaon Indian Air Force station. The runway and the air traffic control of the airport is managed by the IAF.

On Friday evening, the airport officials tweeted, “This is to remind passengers that due to runway resurfacing, there will be no flight operations at Pune airport from October 16 to October 29. Inconvenience caused is deeply regretted.”

Passengers have been hassled and are still feeling the heat due to the sudden closure announcement. Many flyers have had to cancel their trips and many are still awaiting proper replies from airlines and travel portals regarding their refunds.
