Jammu: Over two months after an Army aviation light helicopter crashed into Ranjit Sagar Dam along the Jammu-Punjab border with two pilots on-board on August 3, the body of the second pilot, Captain Jayant Joshi, was recovered from the lake bed on Sunday, an army spokesperson said.
The mortal remains of the first pilot were recovered within 12 days on August 15. But it took a persistent effort of 75 days by the Indian Army and Navy to find the body of the second pilot.
Public Relations Officer (Defence) Lt Col Devender Anand said the search and rescue team used state-of-the-art multi-beam sonar equipment to scan the lake bed due to the vast expanse and depth of the dam. “Based on the inputs received, the area was searched by the remotely operated vehicle, having robotic arms, along with professional divers. After persistent efforts of 75 days, the body was detected at a depth of 65-70 m today (Sunday), and immediately the ROV was launched to recover the mortal remains of the pilot."
Col Anand added the body was sent to Military Hospital, Pathankot, for further examination after a local medical test.
