Kolkata airport recorded 57% more flyers during Durga Puja, this year

Kolkata: The city airport, Kolkata, recorded the busiest week in over 20 months during Durga Puja this year. Over 3 lakh flyers travelled using the airport facility, recording a hike of around 57 percent. Reportedly, the city airport catered for around 2 lakh passengers during the festival last year.

According to a report published in the Times of India (TOI), the highest traffic between the nine-day festival and Dashami was recorded on Shashthi, with 47,193 flyers using the airport facility.

While 25,294 passengers flew in for Durga Puja, around 21,899 people used the airport to fly out of the city. The second highest passenger count was recorded on Tritiya when 47,068 flyers used the airport. Out of these, 25,465 flew in and 21,603 passengers flew out, TOI revealed in its report.

Meanwhile, the highest traffic days last year were on Tritiya and Panchami when 33,819 and 33,878 passengers travelled through the Kolkata airport.

As per reports, the airport facility was mostly used by the Kolkatans settled outside the state to return home during the festival. Also, more people flew in than those who flew out during this Durga Puja, which is in contrast to last year.

Looking at the trend, a total of 1,73,971 people arrived in the city and around 1,75,779 people flew out between Tritiya and Dashami this year.
