New Delhi: Union Minister of State for Finance Dr Bhagwat Kishanrao Karad won praise for providing primary medical assistance to a man aboard an IndiGo flight. Reacting to reports about Karad's actions, PM Narendra Modi said in a tweet on Tuesday, "A doctor at heart, always! Great gesture by my colleague @DrBhagwatKarad."
Bhagwat Karad was travelling on IndiGo flight 6E 171 from Delhi to Mumbai. Approximately an hour after take-off, a passenger started complaining of uneasiness. The cabin crew immediately called out for a doctor on the flight, and Bhagwat Karad, who is a surgeon by profession, rushed to assistance.
The union minister provided some primary medical assistance and also administered an injection that was available in the aircraft's emergency kit.
Sources told India Today, "Once the passenger started complaining of giddiness and discomfort, Dr Karad left his seat and rushed to the passenger's aid. He eased the patient's discomfort by asking him to raise his feet and changing his position every minute."
The patient, who is said to be in his forties, reportedly felt better afterwards. The flight landed in Mumbai after about 45 minutes at 3:20 am on Tuesday and the man was taken for further medical attention.
IndiGo airlines took to Twitter to express their appreciation for the union minister’s assistance. The airline tweeted, "Our heartfelt gratitude and sincere appreciation towards MoS for ministering to his duties non-stop! Dr Bhagwat Karad, your voluntary support for helping out a fellow passenger is ever so inspiring."
