Teen flying from Qatar tests Covid positive at Kolkata airport

Kolkata: A teenager flying from Doha tested Covid positive on arrival at the Kolkata airport late on Thursday night.

The passenger was identified as an 18-year-old woman, who arrived from Doha on Qatar Airways flight QR 540. Officials said she tested positive during the random RTPCR test of 2% of passengers arriving from non-risk countries.

She was shifted to Beliaghata ID Hospital for further tests per the West Bengal government’s Covid-safety guidelines for international passengers. She will now be tested for possible Omicron variant infection. Her samples will be sent for genome sequencing.

Kolkata airport authorities have made all the necessary arrangements at the city airport, keeping in mind all the safety measures and precautions to be taken to fight the new variant of Coronavirus, Omicron.

The city airport authorities have added several swab collection counters, a waiting area, food-beverage counters, and two ambulances at the airport. As per airport authorities, an average 100 to 150 passengers undergo Covid-19 test every day.
