New Delhi/Hyderabad: While the Maharashtra government on Wednesday slashed rapid RT-PCR test rates to ₹1,975 at the Mumbai airport, it continues to cost ₹3,900 at the city’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport – highest in the country. This, after the price was revised recently from an earlier rate of ₹4,500.
According to guidelines, all international passengers from at-risk countries have to undergo a RT-PCR test, on arrival at RGIA. They can either opt for the basic RTPCR that costs ₹750 (government rates) and wait for about four hours for the results or take a rapid test and get results within an hour.
A rapid RT-PCR at Delhi’s IGIA, also run by the GMR Group, that used to cost ₹3,900 till last month has now been reduced to ₹3,500. “Since the prices are fixed by the testing lab (Maymygenome), we have no say in it,” said a GMR representative at RGIA, on Wednesday.
While TOI could not reach Mapmygenome officials for a comment, passengers maintained prices are still steep. “@RGIAHyd looting passengers in the name of #covidtest charging 3900 per head and conducting test for everyone who have negative reports below 72hours too...,” tweeted a passenger.
