Bangalore Metro: Preliminary work on metro link connecting airport begins

Bangalore: The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has started the preliminary work of constructing a metro link to the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). The ambitious project is set to be completed in 2024, as per the deadline set by BMRCL.

Multiple locations on the National Highway (Bellari Road) that connects to the Bangalore airport have been partially barricaded. The contractor for the elevated metro project has also deployed heavy machines to carry out the work.

"Preliminary work is going on. Meanwhile, the contractor is working on setting up labour camps, casting yards, and others. Machines and resources are also being mobilised for the work," said Anjum Parwez, Managing Director of BMRCL, as quoted by The Hindu.

Mr. Parwez further added that “The project will be expedited in the stretch where the trees are not coming in the way of the alignment. The service road on Airport Road is one stretch where tree removal is not required for taking up the project,”

Under phase 2A of the project, the BMRCL will be constructing a metro line starting from the Central Silk Board to the KIA via K.R. Puram, Nagawara, and Hebbal. This project phase has already commenced on the Outer Ring Road, from K.R. Puram to Trumpet. It has been planned that the project will be executed in three packages.
