Hyderabad: Amid Omicron scare, Hyderabad airport makes special arrangements for passengers from 11 'high-risk' countries

As the central government issued a fresh travel advisory amid rising Omicron cases in the country, Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport has made special arrangements for passengers arriving from 11 'high-risk' countries.

To date, 13 international passengers have tested positive and have been taken to TIMS (Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences), Gachibowli, Hyderabad.

Genome sequencing result for one passenger was negative while results for 12 others are still awaited.

The airport authorities said that dedicated Covid-19 testing booths have been set up at the International Arrival Hall pre-immigration to provide a safe, secure, and seamless environment for passengers.

Besides, thermal scanners have also been installed at all arrival gates and passengers must go through the thermal screening process upon arrival.

The airport has also enabled a pre-booking process for all passengers so that they can book the test before arrival. The link for prebooking is available on the Hyderabad International Airport website and the designated lab’s website.

GHIAL (GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited) has set up dedicated counters for passengers who have pre-booked their RT-PCR/Rapid PCR test. There will be dedicated queues for these passengers.

The RT-PCR test costs Rs 750 and the result may take up to 6 hours. The Rapid PCR test costs Rs 3900 and passengers may have to wait for 2 hours for the result. Earlier, the rate was Rs. 4500.

A dedicated waiting area with adequate seating arrangements for the arrival passengers and facilities of F&B, Forex exchange, payment counters are taken care of given the wait time for the test result.

An additional waiting area with all necessary facilities is also arranged for passengers with reduced mobility.
